Moving Panopto Videos from Blackboard to Canvas

In Panopto, there is no difference between Blackboard and Canvas. The only difference is which system is pointing to Panopto. Also, Canvas folders have a different naming convention in Panopto than Blackboard folders.

NOTE: Even though the University no longer uses Blackboard, the video folders it created in Panopto still exist and these instructions still work.

Here is how to move your videos:

1. Navigate to Panopto through mySLU via auth.slu.edu or directly at slu.hosted.panopto.com.
2. Find the course and video(s) that you want to move. In Blackboard, courses started with a CRN such as 202120-12345 and then the name of the course.
   For example: 202120-26460: SP2021 MUSC-1070-02-Applied Music.
3. To find out exactly what your Canvas folder is called, log into Canvas and navigate to the course you want your videos to be in. Click the Panopto video link.
   Note: You may have to turn this link on in the course settings if you don't see it. This is done in Settings/Navigation. Drag the Panopto Link upward in the visible link area.)
4. Identify the name of the video folder. You can see that it starts with Fall 2021 followed a lot more info. For example, the course folder that corresponds to the spring course above is: Fall 2021 - Full Term UG. Var. Credit - Applied Percussion: Percussion, Non-majors. You won't have to type all of that in Canvas, but you will have to type some of it in, Make sure you type it exactly, including spaces.
5. Back in the Blackboard Panopto course folder, mouse over the video you want to  move and click the box that appears in the upper left side of the video thumbnail.
6. Click the Move button under the name of the course folder.
7. In the Move Session(s) to area it says Choose a folder or start typing to search. Start typing 'Fall 2021 - Full Term UG etc.' You most likely will be offered a list of your fall courses before you have to type in the whole name. Chose the course that you are moving to and click the blue Move button to move the video to your Canvas folder.
