How To
How do I set up Okta Verify on my Apple iOS device for multi-factor authentication?
Benefits
Using Okta Verify, rather than SMS (texts) or Voice (phone call), saves time and reduces the steps necessary to verify your identity when logging in to university systems.
Resolution
On your computer:
Use your web browser and navigate to the account security portal at https://auth.slu.edu/. Then enter your SLU Net ID and password and select the “Submit” button.
Verify your identity using the available multi-factor method. (Voice verification was set up during Okta enrollment.)
Once logged in, click on your name in the upper-right corner and select “Settings”
If present, click the green "Edit Profile" button at the top right of the page and enter your password if prompted
Scroll down to the bottom to the “Extra Verification” options. Click the “Set up” button next to Okta Verify.
Select the “iPhone” option and click the “Next” button.
On your Apple iOS device:
Launch the App Store, search for "Okta Verify" and install the application.
Launch Okta Verify and Tap the “Get Started” button, tap the “Next” button and tap the “Add Account” button.
Select “Organization” as an account type, tap “Scan a QR Code” and allow access to the camera, if prompted.
Returning to your computer, using your Apple iOS device to scan the QR code:
Scan the code with your Apple iOS device camera, allowing notifications if prompted.
The attached job aid provides detailed instructions and screenshots to assist in the process.
Technical Guidance
Choosing Okta Verify during login allows you to receive a notification on your mobile device. This notification lets you tap "Yes, it was me" to complete the login. For the best experience, please check "Do not challenge me on this device..." when prompted for multi-factor authentication on computers used only by yourself. Doing so will limit the number of prompts you receive from Okta-integrated applications.
