Every video uploaded into Panopto (whether it was created with Panopto or not) is machine-transcribed using Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) technology.
In order for users to see the automatically generated captions, they have to be enabled.
Here are the steps to do that:
- Select the video that you want to caption on and click the Edit button.
- Click Captions in the options menu on the upper left side of the screen.
- Note that there is a language indicator that will usually say English United States.
- Directly below the language indicator is a drop down link that says Import Captions.
There are two choices for importing captions: Replace with automatic captions and Upload or replace captions.
- Select Replace with automatic captions.
- Click the Apply button at the top right of your video and then click OK to close the edit window.
NOTE: This may take a few minutes to complete the process.
- When you return to your video, you will see the CC button beneath the video to the left of the 1x speed button. When the button is clicked it turns blue and the captions appear along the bottom of the video during playback.
