Background:
Okta is SLU’s security solution that handles SSO (single sign-on) password management and multi-factor authentication. This article steps through the process of using Okta to reset your password if you’ve forgotten it.
Procedure:
When you forget your password, follow the instructions below to reset it yourself.
- If you forget your password, start by directing your web browser to the account security portal at auth.slu.edu and click on the Need help signing in? option below the Submit button.
- From the revealed questions, select Forgot password?
- Choose whichever reset option you prefer by clicking upon it.
NOTE: Unless you can log into your SLU email account, the Reset via Email won't work.
- As soon as you get the code sent to your by the method chosen, enter it into the field on the screen and click the Verify button.
- Once the code is verified, the system will prompt you with another method of authentication. This is typically the Forgotten Password Question.
- Enter your answer and clicked the Reset Password button.
- At this point, enter your new password, type it again to confirm it, and click the Reset Password button. One must adhere to the following requirements:
- At least 12 characters
- A lowercase letter
- An uppercase letter
- A symbol
- A number is not required
- Spaces are allowed
- No parts of your username
- Does not include your first name
- Does not include your last name
- Your password cannot be any of your last 24 passwords
- At least 1 hour(s) must have elapsed since you last changed your password
- Consider using a proper sentence with at least four words as a password (such as a lyric, quote, or aspirational statement). Not only will it be easy to remember, but it will also be nearly impossible to crack.
- Using a proper sentence (beginning with a capital letter and ending with a punctuation mark), will meet all criteria.
- NOTE: A space counts as a standard character, not a special character.
- If your submitted password adheres to the requirements, you may be prompted to authenticate again via another method.
- Choose your method and verify the code accordingly.
- Once you’ve confirmed your identity through this final step, your password will be reset and you will be passed through and logged into the auth.slu.edu website.
