On September 17, 2026, the Microsoft OneDrive tool was disabled in Canvas. It has been replaced with a new app called Microsoft Education.
To make the new app available to you and your students, you need to enable it in your course navigation.
Follow these instructions to set it up with instructor-level access:
1. Log in to Canvas and open your specific course.
2. Click Settings at the bottom of the left-hand course navigation menu.
3. Select the Navigation tab along the top row.
4. Scroll down to the list of disabled items and locate Microsoft Education.
5. Drag it up to the active section at the top.
6. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.
Complete the First-Time Application Setup:
1. Click the newly visible Microsoft Education link in your course navigation menu.
2. If prompted, sign in using your official institutional Microsoft 365 credentials.
3. Click the Continue setup button.
4. OneDrive is the only available navigation at this time. Slide the toggle to the right to enable it.
5. Click Done.
Allow a few minutes for the initial sync to finish. Once complete, you will be taken to your main Microsoft Education Dashboard, where you can directly open your OneDrive files.
