Adding Okta Verify to macOS for Multi-Factor Authentication

Overview: 

Okta is the SLU's security solution that handles single sign-on (SSO) password management and multi-factor authentication (MFA). The instructions below step you through the process of adding Okta Verify on a Mac computer to authenticate your already existing university account.

Directions for University-Managed Macs:

CLICK HERE if you would prefer to use a document that includes these instructions accompanied with screen captures that show you what you should see on your Mac during this process. Otherwise, follow the instructions below.

  1. Click on the Launchpad icon in your Dock.
  2. In the Launchpad Search field, type Self Service.
  3. In Self Service, search for Okta Verify.
  4. When you find Okta Verify, click the Install button.
  5. Launch Okta Verify and click the blue Get started button.
  6. When you finish reading How it works, click the blue Next button.
  7. Under the New account heading, type auth.slu.edu and click the blue Next button.
  8. Click Select beside the security method you choose to verify your identity.
  9. If prompted to Enable Touch ID or password confirmation? click the blue Enable button.
  10. At this point you should see your account added to the main Okta Verify screen.
  11. In your web browser go to mySLU at auth.slu.edu/.
  12. Log in using your SLUnet ID and password.
  13. When prompted to choose a security method to verify your identity, click the Select button to the right of Use Okta FastPass.
  14. If asked, Do you want to allow this website to open "Okta Verify"? click the Always Allow option.
  15. To finalize the process, enter your password and click the blue OK button.
  16. Once logged into mySLU, click on your name in the upper right corner.
  17. Select the Settings option from the drop-down list.
  18. Under the section labeled Security Methods, you should see your Mac's name under the Okta Verify option.

  1. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your screen and select App Store.
  2. In the App Store, search for Okta Verify.
  3. When you find Okta Verify, click the Get button.
  4. Launch Okta Verify and click the blue Get started button.
  5. When you finish reading How it works, click the blue Next button.
  6. Under the New account heading, type auth.slu.edu and click the blue Next button.
  7. Click Select beside the security method you choose to verify your identity.
  8. If prompted to Enable Touch ID or password confirmation? click the blue Enable button.
  9. At this point you should see your account added to the main Okta Verify screen.
  10. In your web browser go to mySLU at auth.slu.edu/.
  11. Log in using your SLUnet ID and password.
