Summary
This article gives a brief overview of the new Canvas tool, Ally, which provides accessibility options to those that need it.
Body
Ally is an accessibility tool that integrates seamlessly with SLU's Canvas environment. It automatically checks every document and picture uploaded to a course and assigns a score based on how accessible the content is, which is only seen by Instructors. Ally also generates alternative formats to download for those that require use of screen readers, electronic braille, or audio versions of documents. Additionally, Ally analyzes the degree of accessibility for most Canvas-generated content.
Ally:
- Integrates seamlessly with Canvas
- Automatically checks course materials against WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards
- Provides students with accessible alternative formats such as audio and electronic braille
- Delivers guidance to instructors to improve accessibility of their course content
