Overview:
SLU faculty can now import grades from Canvas into Banner. Note that importing is not required and grades can still be entered manually in Banner. You can import Mid-Term and Final grades.
In order to transfer the grades successfully, a Grading Scheme needs to be set up and enabled in the Canvas Settings. If the Grading Scheme is not set up in Canvas, there will be a notification in Banner indicating that.
This article explains how to enable and edit a Grading Scheme in your Canvas course.
NOTE: You will need to modify your Grading Scheme to ensure that the grades A+, D+ or D- are not available, as the SLU grading system doesn't use those grades. Also make sure that any percentage ranges in your scheme match any curves you might have. Finally, give your Grading Scheme a name and save it. The Total column in the Canvas Gradebook needs to be visible to students.
NOTE: Grades that are hidden from students in the Canvas Gradebook will not be included in the totals that transfer to Banner.
Importing Grades into Banner:
Once your grades are entered in the Canvas Gradebook, follow these steps to import your grades.
- Log into Banner Self-Service and navigate to the Grade Entry page.
- Select the radio button for Mid-Term or Final Grades.
- Select the Semester and then the Course.
- Click the Import Grades button. It may take several seconds to import the grades.
- You will be taken to the Faculty Grade Entry screen for your course.
NOTE: The grades are submitted and complete at this point.
Grades can be edited and saved on this screen. If the process is run
more than once, grades already entered in Banner will not be overwritten.
