Installing Microsoft Teams on Your Own Computer

How To 

This is what you do to get Teams running on your own machine as opposed to a SLU-managed machine.

Resolution

Follow the steps below to download and install Teams on a computer not owned or managed by SLU.

  1. Open a web browser and go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-teams/download-app.
  2. Click on the Download for desktop button.
  3. Click on the Download Teams button.
  4. Click the downloaded program file in the lower left corner of the browser screen to run the installation file.
  5. Click the Run button to begin the installation.
  6. As the installation begins, the Microsoft Teams logo appears on the screen.
  7. Upon installation, a welcome screen appears. Click the Get started button.
  8. At the next screen, enter your SLU Office 365 email address - firstname.lastname@slu.edu or firstname.lastname@health.slu.edu then click the Next button below. 
  9. The following screen will prompt you to enter your SLUNet ID and password and to click the Next button.
  10. Following the login page, select your preferred form of multi-factor authentication and click the Next button.
  11. Enter your code or follow the instructions provided by the method of multi-factor authentication you chose.
  12. Before completing the login process, Teams will ask you if you wish to stay logged in. If you wish to do so, click the Yes button. If you want Teams to remember your choice, select the check-box to the left that states, “Don’t Show this again.”
  13. Once logged in, you will see the default Teams layout. Down the left column are the different modes including communication methods like Chat, Teams, and Call. Select what you need and explore where it takes you.
