This guide will show and demonstrate how to access SLU’s Citrix virtual environment for use with IBM SPSS 27 on or off campus.
Resolution
- Open a web browser and navigate to https://access.sluapps.org/Citrix/ExternalWeb/
- Login with your current SLU credentials
- You may be asked to “Detect Receiver” or “Download Citrix Receiver” (Follow the prompts to install Citrix Receiver if required)
- On the next page, a window might pop up asking you to open the application, click Open
- Your browser and Citrix Receiver should now be linked for the future
- You should now be greeted with a page full of icons
SPSS 27 should appear toward the bottom of the screen because the applications are listed in alphabetical order
- Click on the “SPSS 27” Icon
- In a moment, SPSS will launch and you can begin using it
If instead of launching, your web browser downloads a file with an "ICA" extension, just double-click that file to launch the Citrix Receiver
- Once you have SPSS running, you can access and save data and files locally
The first time you try to do open a local file, a "Citrix Receiver - Security Warning" window may appear
If so, it will tell you that an application is attempting to access files on your computer
This is true and it's what you are trying to do
It provides three options:
- Block access
- Allow reading only
- Permit all access
- Choose the third option and permit all access so that you can load and save files in SPSS
The upper left of the dialog box that opens will say "Look in:" and the default should be "My Documents"
- Choose the dropdown menu and scroll up until you see options for drives and folders on your machine
By default, the software is looking on the network drive of the server that's running SPSS
- You won't find your files there and any files you save there will be lost
- You want to choose something like "Local Disk (C: on [YOURCOMPUTERNAME])"
- You will then be accessing and saving files to your own computer so you won't lose them
